Growing in Mulch

We convinced the owners to allow us to grow an eatable landscape, in the mulch, in front of our town-home.

It started out with a simple design and a lot of sweat.

Here is what it looks like today. We have added a few more plants and moved other around.

The Cabbage is growing like crazy.

We are going to plant transplant the Hosta that showed up to another location and add a few pepper plants.

This year we wanted to test out a few new products and settled upon growing in wall mounted fabric bags. We used regular wood screws to attach them to our existing patio walls. The installation went quickly and easily with the attached grommets and hanging tabs. We decided to plants Strawberries in the 7 pocket hanger on the left and Herbs in the 12 pocket hanger on the right. So far the plants look lovely and seem to be adapting very well. Watering can be a bit of a challenge in the beginning until new roots develop to hold more of the soil in place. We think it would be better if we add a drip irrigation system. If you would like more information on the company we purchased these from please let us know!
